Lee Treble: Oprah is NOT the first black woman billionaire

  1. Oprah is NOT the first black woman billionaire

    Stedman won.

But that’s not what I’m writing about.

Oprah, as great she is in terms of a brand, role model, and financial savant, is NOT the first black woman billionaire. But most of y’all make haste to praise her, and are quick to shoot down any detractors. Oprah stans are 10 times worse than Beyonce stans. Not as bad as *looks around* Bustin Jeiber stans.

    *gasp*

It is a myth that Oprah is the first (sometimes) black woman billionaire in the world. And because of Oprah’s influence and stature, we are apt to believe that.

    But………………….its not true.

    Here we go again Lee.

Lee, why you always gotta go hating and sh*t. Don’t you have a family. Is Tyrese too busy to slander?

    Sure

    Anyways

The first black woman billionaire is Shelia Johnson.

    Who?

    Sheila Johnson

Ex-wife of BET founder Bob Johnson. (She HATES BET nowadays. She can’t even watch it anymore….)

They founded BET together in 1979 and divorced in 2002 after a 33 year marriage (Not a golddigger, check) splitting a 1.5 billion dollar stake. BET was worth 2.3 billion dollars, and she had about a 25% stock in the company. After her divorce, she took home 700 million dollars That’s it Lee?

    Nah

Allow me to run down who exactly is Shelia Johnson is…..

She OWNS the Washington Mystics, and owns minority stake in the Washington Capitals, Wizards and Nationals as well. The rise of Alexander Oveckhin may have increased her shares dramatically.

She owns 200-acre Salamander Farm in Virginia and another farm and a condo in Florida. My DMV people can tell you about the standard of living in Virginia. She also owns 18 show horses.  Show horses are worth more than houses b.

She is an accomplished photographer and violinist.

Like Oprah, she is a noted philanthropist. She gave $7 million to Parsons School of Design (she’s a board member), $1 million to the State University of New York at Morrisville and $3 million to the Hill School in Middleburg.

She is president of the Washington International Horse Show, which under her leadership made a profit for the first time in its history. This chick LOVES horses

She is a photographer whose work is displayed in galleries and restaurants around Virginia.

She is a designer who has created her own line of luxury linens that is manufactured in Italy. One pattern was inspired by her photograph of iceladened trees on the farm.

But you will never hear about her on TV. She’s mastered the art of amassing a fortune without being a household name. And its awesome!!!

In other words, she’s a busy woman, like Oprah.

While some of y’all (rightfully so) are worshipping the ground Oprah is walking on because she’s leaving, get one thing straight while you do

She isn’t the first black woman billionaire. Probably the only one at this point.

But not the first. No shade at Oprah at all. Just a reminder.

    Let Lee Cook
